The Texas Bach Choir

Dr. Daniel Long, Artistic Director

The 2007-2008 season marks the Texas Bach Choir's thirty-second year of choral performance. Under the direction of Dr. Daniel Long since 1990, the Texas Bach Choir has continued its tradition of innovation and excellence in performance.

The Texas Bach Choir has become well known for its more authentic and intimate presentations and for performances of the highest quality. The Texas Bach Collegium is an early music ensemble which performs exclusively on reproductions of instruments from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Our first concert in September 2007 is a good indication of things to come. The first half honors the 300th anniversary of the death of Dietrich Buxtehude, Bach’s most influential teacher, as well as the delicate Salve Regina by the underrated brother of Franz Joseph, Michael Haydn. Niklas Eklund, our generation’s finest natural trumpet player returns, as well Nataniel Mayfield, an up-and-coming trumpet star. It is two secular works that are the centerpiece of this music feast: a welcome ode by Henry Purcell and a concert version of the one-act comic opera, La Serva Padrona by Pergolesi.

Our second concert in November 2007 may be one of the most far-reaching in TBC’s history. It will be a presentation of 800 years of sacred and secular Advent and Christmas music: from 13th century French Marian conductus to 19th century North American hymnody and Shaker tunes.
